K120 - Tempest Prototype #2
This is the second prototype of the team kite, Tempest.
Panel layout
The panel layout is what I am thinking for the final product, but this is still made with mostly scrap fabric. This panel layout starts with the same base layout as the Shiznit, but adds some more divisions to cut down large panels and add some variety.
Framing
Compared to the previous prototype, this Tempest is using a 3pt upper leading edge instead of p3x, in hopes of making the turns a bit more expressive. It also uses fiberglass batons fr the winglets instead of carbon.
Winglets
I changed the shape of the winglets since the last version. I think this style looks much cleaner and is a bit easier to build. The pockets along the trailing edge are a bit of a source for issues though, since I wasn't very rigerous about how accurately I placed them. As a result, one of the battons is about 1cm shorter than the other. I also plan to move the leading edge pocker closer to the nose to make the baton fitting a bit more forgiving.
Bridle
The bridle is once again made adjustable, but now starting from measurements of the v1 prototype after being adjusted while flying.
Spine
The spine is not a rolled seem instead of a simple overlap, which I always like on dual line spines.
Sewing Machine
I bought a new sewing machine, a Bernette b77, and this is my first kite build with the machine. I've been learning how to use the machine effectively on this build, so it's probably got some quirks in the sewing here and there.
