K103 - Escape #10
This is an Escape LW, designed by Ulzburger Kites . This kite is built in Black and Gold to compliment K85 - Escape #3.
I had a weird mixup when building the last kite. I was intending to build an Escape LW for K102. I pulled out my Escape LW to refer to so that I could try to build it similarly to the way I did before, so the kites match well. Turns out, my kites were in the wrong bags. So, I was referencing an Escape STD, and ended up building K102 with all the reinforcements of an Escape STD but the frame of an LW. So, I built this one as an actual LW, with limited reinforcments, then swapped the frame from K102 into this sail, and reframed K102 as a STD.
Sewing Machine
I've started using my wife's Singer Quantum Stylist for the dual line noses, as it gets through the thicker layers more effectively than my Singer 401A. Since I already had the Quantum Stylist set up for the nose, I ended up using it to make the sleeve as well. I think this is the best sleeve I have made so far. My 401A would often end up putting little wrinkles in the trim, and it struggled on the thick ends of the sleeve. The Quantum Stylest worked through all of that wonderfully. I expect I will likely transition away from my Singer 401A toward the Quantum Stylest, or maybe another heavy duty Singer that we have that is in need of some TLC.
Started Over
When I was a decent way though the sail, the body of the sail got folded under while I was sewing on some reinforcements, and I ended up stitching through the body of the sail. I ended up throwing that entire sail away to start again. Not my greatest moment, but there wasn't much of a way to recover from that, I don't think.
