Build Log

K102 - Escape #9

This is an Escape LW, designed by Ulzburger Kites . This kite is built in Black and Gold to compliment K85 - Escape #3. This kite, and a few to follow, are being built to prepare for an upcoming dual line pairs performance.

Tail

I had one major mistake on this kite, which is that I installed the spine reinforcemetn and tail fastening before adding the trailing edge trim. So, I ended up cutting off the valcro tail that I had sewn on, sewing on the tailing edge trim, then sewing on a new tail. I think this turned out fine, but it's not quite as clean as I would like.

Nose

My Singer 401A struggles a lot with dual line noses, so I decided to try it on my wife's sewing machine. It did handle the nose much more easily, so I think it turned out relatively well. The trim on the sides of the nose is still a bit sloppier than I'd like though.

Bridle

I added some extra renforcement on the bridle. I have some red reinforcement where the up-haul rubs on the lower spreader. I also added some on the tow line where it rubs on the trailing edge, since I was seeing visible wear on this part of the bridle on K85.

Printed parts

Now that I got a Prusa MK4, I've started printing my rigid parts out of nylon instead of TPU. So, the sail stays and the tail stopper are all printed in nylon.

Signature

When comparing this kite to K85, I noticed that my Sharpie notes on the trailing edge have completely disappeared. So I've decided that I will no longer put my notes on the trailing edge, and will instead put them up by the leading edge, where I think they wil be a bit safer.
