Build Log

K145 - Hybrid #1

A Hybrid, designed by Paul DeBakker. This is the first non-prototype build. The previous Hybrid was the first build off of the digitized plans that I build alongside Paul. We’ve made a few corrections based on that build, primarily around the curvature of the leading edge.

This Hybrid is build as a UL and is intended to be flown as a pair with Paul.

Fittings

Paul prefers to use classic APA fittings in a few places, so I’m using those instead of my 3d printed fittings to match his builds. There are still a few 3d printed parts here though: the yoyo stoppers, the tail stopper, and the protective endcaps in the nose.

Fabric

The white is Ventex, I believe. This is something that Paul had lots of and wanted to use it for these kites. Te leading edge and spine are all 1.5oz ripstop nylon instead of dacron to cut some weight as a UL. We’ve also dropped the mylar reinforcement around the standoffs.

Bridle

At the time of this build, there is no bridle yet. Paul is still working on that, so I’ll get a bridle put on it soon.

Flight

I haven’t flown this build yet, but I have flown Paul’s UL build. I was pretty impressed by the amount of pressure it manages to generate in very low wind while maintaining great access to tricks. So I am looking forward to spending some time on this one.
