Build Log

K126 - Tempest #1

The first official Tempest. Tempest prototyping has gone well, and I am happy with the standard, so I have built a final version of it. I will then be re-fitting my previous prototypes to test ultralight and super ultralight configurations.

Leading edge fitting openings

In an effort to make this kite easier to repair, the leading edge openings for the spreaders are very narrow. This allows me to forgo glue around the fittings, as the leading edge fabric will hold the fittings in place. The lower leading edge is also a full-length spar. So, if the lower leading edge breaks, I can pull it out, and just push in a new one.

One downside with this is that I did not adjust the tolerance on my fittings. Next time, I may give a bit more room so the fitting isn't as tight on the leading edge spar. As-is, the fitting is difficult to slide along the fitting, making disassembly a bit more difficult.

Bag

I also made a change to my bag. Instead of having a single opening at the top, I've expanded the opening down one side, so the entire corner can open up, making it easier to move the kite into or out of the bag. I've also moved the spare parts pocket into this same opening, behind the embroidery. This makes the pocket opening wider, making the pocket easier to access.
