K96 - Escape #8
This is an Escape Vented, built with 1.9oz Ottertex Ripstop Nylon, framed in P3X (Leading Edge and Spine), Nitro Strong (Lower Spreaders), and 5mm pultruded carbon (Upper Spreader). This build is based on the Escape open source plan by Ulzburger Kites .
Venting
This kite’s venting is a combination of the venting from K93 and K92, made on request by a friend. I have flown K93 and I was pretty happy with how it felt, but I could imagine being able to get away with more venting, so it’ll be interesting to see how this feels.
Frame
I used P3X on the spine instead of P300 because I was out of P300. P3x is a bit too short to properly fit the spine, but I was able to ferrule an extra piece to make it fit. The good news is that I could just use the cutoffs from the leading edge to make that extra piece.
Nose
I recently took a look at a new custom Mamba by Ken McNeil, and I liked how he used a zig-zag on the nose reinforcements. I tried doing that on this kite, and I think it worked really well.
Stoppers
I decided not to use C clips, and instead used some small tubes that I printed with glue holes. It think those will work out well.
