Build Notes

Stitch length over rough patches

I’ve been adding an extra layer of ripstop around the fittings on the leading edge and sewing them in place before sewing the leading edge to the sail. However, when I cross over those stitches on the reinforcements, the sewing machine hangs up on it a little bit and pushes the fabric through a bit slower, resulting in a tighter stitch length. To compensate for this, I tried to help pull the fabric through in these cases, but that often ended up in a wider stitch length. I need to practice situations like this to make the stitching more consistent.

Swiveling fitting

I had a bit of trouble printing the swiveling fitting, and I ended up tweaking my design slightly. I thickened the swivel shaft, and reduced the diameter of the swivel head to make the shaft a bit stronger without increasing the overall size of the fitting. I also added a bit more tolerance between the pieces. After these tweaks, the fitting printed much more easily.

Sleeve embroidery

I decided to do the embroidery on purple so the front of the bag can transition from dark colors to light colors. Because the purple is rather dark, I ended up doing white lettering on the embroidery, but I came to that decision a bit late. I ended up pausing the embroidery just before the letters to switch over to white since my plan had me doing the lettering in black like usual.
