Sail Stay Standoff Connector
Description
Connectors for attaching a spar directly to the sail of a sport kite.
Thie contains two types of sail-stays: Screw on, and melt on.
The Screw on type has a front and a back, which can be connected with a small metal screw.
The Melt on type has a prong that can be poked through the sail, then melted and pressed flat. This is weaker, but lighter.
Resources:
For the best experience, use the online Fusion 360 Project. The project includes parameters to adjust hole sizes and tolerances.
The Project is also available as a .f3d file here: Sail Stay Standoff Connector v52.f3d
Prepared STL files:
Name | Description |
---|---|
2.25mm Sail Stay.stl | A small fitting with a 2.25mm internal diameter hole that fits 2mm rods. This is attached to a kite by pushing the skinny end through a hole, then melting it down with a soldering iron to effectively rivet it to the sail. |
Front - 3.2mm.stl | The front piece with a 3.2mm internal diameter hole that fits 3mm rods. Pair this with Back.stl. |
Back.stl | The back piece that goes with any Front-* file. Adhere to the kite using a M2x8mm screw, like these on Amazon. |
Printing Notes
I print these using Nylon with no supports and 100% infill.
