K142 - Tempest Prototype #5
Another heavy Tempest prototype to be paired with K127. This is a very similar build that I am using to do side-by-side comparisons with different framing ideas.
Framing
This one is framed as follows:
- Upper Leading Edge - Skyshark Nitro Strong
- Lower Leading Edge - Skyshark XLS
- Spine - Skyshark P400XL
- Lower Spreader - Skyshark 7PT
- Upper Spreader - 5mm pultruded carbon
- Standoffs - 3mm Fiberglass
- Batons - 1.5mm Fiberglass
The main change here is the leading edge going to XLS and Nitro Strong. The idea is to stiffen the leading edge so that, under heavy pressure, the spine doesn't flex as much, allowing the kite to keep straighht lines more easily.
Sail build differences
I made the spine reinforcement wider. I was considering using Skyshark XLS spars for the spine, so I need to make the velcro tensionig bit wider to make room for the wider spar. However, I ended up going against that idea as it would be more of a pain to apply weight at the tail when the spar is a differnt size from usual.
