K108 - Escape #13
This is another Escape, designed by Ulzburger Kites , though this is a new Strong Vent version. When preparing for Dual Line Pairs at World Cup in France this coming April, Paul DeBakker and I found that my vented Escapes did not reach the highest wind range allowed by the competition rules (27mph). So, I built two more Escapes, this one and K109, with more venting and a heavier frame.
Venting
On top of the venting I've used before, I've added more along the spine, along the leading edge, and across the center of each wing. The section across the middle of each wing is surrounded by velcro so we can keep those vents covered as desired to widen the wind range of this sail.
Frame
The frame has been beefed up a bit from the Vented. It now has a P400 spine and leading edge, a 6mm upper spreader, Nitro Strong lower spreaders, and 4mm standoffs.
Bridle
As an extra precaution, I've made the bridle more adjustable. This is so that we have one more tool in our belt to be able to adjust the kite and slow it down, if needed, depending on the wind conditions at World Cup.
Wingtips
After a practice session on the hard-pack sand at Long Beach, WA, Paul had suggested using some pointed caps for the wingtips so we can more reliably land and keep traction on hard pack sand, as that could be the sort of condition we will find in France. I made a new 3d model for a pinted side-nock endcap, which both of these are equipped with.
