K71 - Essentials XXV #5
After I attended the Long Beach Island kite festival in New Jersey, it became starkly apparent to me that I only had one heavy vented kite in my bag. I needed to b build a second one.
Mesh material
The last Essentials XXV had some different mesh material, but I found that to be a bit too soft, so I’ve returned to the typical fiberglass mesh for this one.
Process
I put a lot of thought into my process for this one, and I’m very pleased with the result. I essentially cut out panels for a standard Essentials, tacked the panels together, cut out the openings for the mesh, added the mesh and cut to size, then added black strips on the back. I think this overall process worked quite well, and there’s very little peeking from the back layers.
Fittings
As usual, all fittings are 3d printed.
Sleeve
I played a bit with the mesh in the embroidered sleeve. I think it was kind of interesting to have some embroidery there, but I’m not sure if I like it enough to do it again. Might just leave it as blank space in the future.
