K70 - Urban Ninja #1
K70 - Urban Ninja #1
This is my first single line kite build. This is an Urban Ninja, an open source plan from Horvath, and I built it while following the video build-along by On The Line Kiting. My girlfriend and I decided to both build an urban ninja. We got a ways through it, and she eventually got busy and lost interest, so I finished both of them. I’m only counting the red one in my build log though, because that’s the only one that I built from start to finish.
Some notes
Sail depth added in plan
I thought it was very interesting how the kite plan puts the cuts not quite at 90 degrees, so that the sail ends up with some depth. I’m not sure that I like that approach over a curved edge, but it was certainly interesting.
Fittings
As usual, the kite sports all 3d printed fittings, which is fun.
Framing
I think the framing is kind of interesting how the leading edge doesn’t go all the way to the nose, and how there’s a hole in the wing tip to allow the leading edge to be inserted. The tensioning on the nose is also very interesting.
