Build Log

K64 - Lazer #1

K64 and K65 were built together as a pair on commission. The Lazer is a design that Scott Davis brought back from France, and I’ve modified Scott’s plans from there to build them my way.

Some interesting bits:

Applique

The original Lazer used French seams for connecting all of the panels, but since I’m using hot-cut Icarex, I don’t really see any benefit of using that seam, so I used my usual appliqué seam with a multi-step zig-zag stitch. From what I can tell, the main benefit of a rolled French seam is to protect against fraying, but hot-cut Icarex isn’t going to have that issue.

3d Printed Parts

As usual, the kite is made with 3d printed parts, but one part that will stand out is the nose. These kites are made to be flown in high wind, and most of the landings end up being on the nose, so I 3d printed a flexible nose piece that could be sewn on as a replacement for Cordura or seat belt fabric.
