K68 - Essentials S #4
I’m teaching a quad line kite making class at Fort Worden in March 2022, and this is a demo of the kite we will be building in the class. This is an updated version of the Essentials S. It’s the same as the ones I’ve built before for myself, but it has updated fittings and uses my newer building processes.
Some interesting parts:
Updated endcap design
I’ve made some updates to my Essentials Endcap that made the part easier to print and more effective at holding the bridle connection. This Essentials sports new caps in Red.
Hard templates with blueprint
I’ve done some hard templates in the past, but I’ve refined the process a bit by getting templates printed at Staples, then transferring that to Ram Board, and lining the edges with aluminum tape. I think this worked pretty well, but I do think it added a bit of excess fabric. If I were to do it again, I’d cut out the hard templates more on the inside of the line to compensate.
Hot Tacking
As I’ve been doing for a while now, I’ve not been using tape between the panels, only hot-tacking to keep things together while sewing.
